The Bauchi State Business Directory covers one of the largest states in Northern Nigeria. Spanning about 49,119 square kilometres with a population of over 7 million people, Bauchi is actively diversifying its economy beyond agriculture into mining, manufacturing, and tourism.

For entrepreneurs, investors, and business owners, the state’s major commercial centres offer significant untapped potential in solid minerals, tourism, and agro-industrial processing. Bauchi shares borders with Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, Gombe, and Yobe, placing it at a strategic crossroads that supports trade in both agricultural and manufactured goods.

This Bauchi State Business Directory provides a clear overview of the business landscape, key sectors, and emerging opportunities across the state.

Bauchi State as a Business State

Bauchi State Business Directory
Bauchi as a Business State.

At the heart of Bauchi State’s commercial identity is sheer scale. The state government estimates that roughly 4.2 million hectares of arable land—spanning about 65% of its total landmass—are available for agriculture, though only 1.8 million hectares are currently under cultivation.

As highlighted across the Bauchi State Business Directory, this expansive agricultural foundation comfortably supports the harvest of cereals, rice, maize, millet, sorghum, and fresh vegetables, alongside a booming livestock sector with vast herds of cattle, sheep, goats, and poultry. Yet, the most compelling story unfolding here in 2026 isn’t just about farming itself, but about Bauchi’s ambitious drive to move up the value chain while cultivating new, complementary economic engines.

This transition was hardened during the Bauchi Economic and Investment Summit, held in October 2025. The state government inked 47 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) spanning agriculture, solid minerals, power, infrastructure, tourism, ICT, and manufacturing—representing an investment pipeline of over $5.2 billion announced at the Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre. While these figures reflect strategic pledges rather than completed industrial assets, tracking these developments through a verified Bauchi State Business Directory provides clear visibility into where corporate capital is flowing.

The broader state economy remains predominantly agricultural. Based on official statistics, the 1.8 million hectares under active cultivation offer immense room for commercial expansion, provided inputs, capital, cold storage, and off-take markets are secured. Cereal production leads the sector, complemented by livestock, gum arabic processing, and commercial vegetable farming.

Beyond agriculture, three expanding sectors featured prominently in the Bauchi State Business Directory set the region apart: solid minerals, eco-tourism, and structured investment promotion. The state possesses rich deposits of tin, columbite, limestone, and gypsum. Following registration initiatives launched in 2024, the government established Bauchi Mining Synergy and Exploration Limited to commercialize the mineral base.

Tourism serves as the third economic pillar, anchored by Yankari National Park (YNP)—covering 2,244 km²—and the Wikki Warm Springs. While YNP recorded over ₦48 million in revenue across a nine-month period between 2023 and 2024, these figures underscore significant untapped upside as hospitality infrastructure and regional promotion improve.

Guiding this corporate expansion is the Bauchi Investment Corporation (BIC). Ultimately, transforming the summit’s $5.2 billion pipeline into operational listings on the Bauchi State Business Directory will depend on project execution and ongoing state efforts to secure rural mining and agricultural corridors.

The Active Sectors

The Active Sectors.

Agriculture and Agro-Processing

Although agriculture is still the core, business opportunities are increasingly shifting to the value chain of agriculture, which includes storage, logistics, processing, packaging, animal feed production, dairy processing, and supply of agricultural inputs. There are allocations linked to the value-addition strategies within the 2026 state budget that still support the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ), as well as the agro-industrial processing centers (AIPZ).

There are some 2.4 million ha of arable land not currently being farmed, creating an opportunity for commercial farming companies (with the proviso that they can find land, security in certain areas, and infrastructure to take advantage of this). The livestock sector has specific potential for dairy development, and the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), supported by the World Bank, is currently improving the milk collection centers in the villages of Azare, Firo and Buzaye to support the dairy value chain.

Solid Minerals and Mining

The mining industry in Bauchi has become a lot more dynamic and is one of the areas under the watchful eye of the state in terms of commercial development. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the registration of mining operators and processors commenced in 2024, and the state has created a special purpose vehicle, called Bauchi Mining Synergy and Exploration Limited, to commercialize the mineral sector.

Tons

The biggest is the reported $50m investment by China’s Shandong Minsheng Group in a facility for the mining and processing of tin and columbite in Toro Local Government Area. The project, if realized as planned, would not be just extraction but a major foreign direct investment in mineral processing capacity. Likewise, it was reported that 10 million metric tons of high-grade limestone deposits were found in Gwana Village, Alkaleri Local Government Area, which has led to talks with Resident Cement Factory Ltd to build a 10 million metric tonnes per annum cement plant.

Tourism and Hospitality

The Yankari National Park lies at the heart of the tourism economy of Bauchi and the Wikki Warm Spring is a unique natural attraction. There is limited tourism infrastructure, and the park has a network of hospitality services, transport services, guides and food services, although there is still room for growth. Yankari benefits from the ACReSAL project (Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes) that has supported infrastructure development, now also covered by the state Ministry of Tourism and Culture budget. A ten-year management plan (2025-2035) is in development which will direct long-term management of tourism.

The investment question here is whether the visitor economy is wide enough to allow for tourism investment in the hospitality sector outside of the park, in Bauchi city and its environs. The current scale of visitation and revenue generated indicates a high potential for development, especially in the mid-range accommodation, tour operation and transport sectors from the park to the major cities in the north of Nigeria.

Construction, Infrastructure, and Real Estate

Secondary businesses are established in Bauchi State due to public infrastructure and urbanization. The state’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework has identified a number of infrastructure projects such as the expansion of Bauchi Central Market, construction of a modern market in Azare and the development of cattle ranching infrastructures. These projects stimulate growth by providing business opportunities for construction companies, material suppliers, and real estate developers.

Bauchi’s development requires commercial property, residential development, and urban infrastructure. The construction of roads, development of markets and public buildings create job opportunities for construction companies and demand for building materials, transport and professional services.

Manufacturing and Industrial Development

The manufacturing sector in Bauchi is still underdeveloped with activities related to agriculture processing, construction materials and mineral beneficiation. If implemented (and the Resident Cement investment does not seem to have gone beyond the planning phase), it could be a significant industrial investment in Alkaleri with potential spillover effects on quarrying, transport and construction industries.

The manufacturing opportunities most immediately available are in food processing, which includes rice milling, extraction of vegetable oil, and livestock processing, all of which are natural extensions of the agriculture base. The purpose of the SAPZ initiative and agro-industrial processing centers is to minimize the entry barriers for the food manufacturing companies.

Trade and Commerce

Bauchi city serves as the state’s major commercial and administrative hub, which houses banking institutions, professional services, retail trade, and government institutions. Commercial activities in the state’s prime northern commercial city of Azare focus on agricultural business trading, animal business trading, retailing, and transportation to neighboring states.

Agricultural commodity trading is a major business activity. Grains, livestock, and other products are traded throughout Bauchi markets. This commodity flow is supported by the wholesale trade, retail distribution, and transport services.

 Professional and Business Services

The professional services industry, including legal, accounting, consulting, construction, logistics, hospitality, and financial services, enables the government to function, as well as agricultural businesses, mining operations, and trading businesses. The economy is diversifying, which means there is a need for specialized services like mining engineering, agricultural extension, tourism marketing and investment facilitation.

The Business Districts and Key Areas

Bauchi City

The state capital is the main business and administrative hub of the state and has a few separate business areas:

Central Business District and Commercial Core

The Administrative Centre of Bauchi City is populated by the state administration, banking headquarters, large professional services providers and retail outlets for the state bureaucracy and urban population or consumers. This is the highest-dollar commercial real estate/power place.

Wunti Road/Wunti Market Corridor

A long-established retail/market street for daily trade and distribution of goods for consumers. The market’s main activity is wholesale and retail trade, and it serves as a distribution hub for agricultural and imported products.

Ahmadu Bello Way and Adjoining Corridors

These are commercial corridors, home to retail outlets, hospitality, service providers, and professional offices. The area is connected to administrative districts, residential areas, and is a major commercial route.

Bauchi Central Market Area

Main wholesale and retail area in the city, essential to the trading of agricultural commodities, distribution of consumer goods, and everyday trade.

Azare

Azare serves as the main commercial center in Bauchi State. The town is a hub of agricultural trading, where grains and various other agricultural products are traded in the markets of the town. The livestock-related business sector is a large group of businesses, such as cattle trading, animal feed supplies, and veterinary services. The state’s PPP framework also has a plan for a modern market in Azare, which will formalize and develop commercial infrastructure.

The ongoing upgrades of the milk collection center in L-PRES in Azare and Firo and Buzaye provide opportunities for aggregation, cooling, and transport of milk in the area. This investment in infrastructure places Azare in the new emerging formal dairy sector.

Alkaleri/Yankari Corridor

This economic corridor is a mix of tourism, agriculture, livestock, and new mining. Farming and livestock operations are the backbone of the tourism economy with Yankari National Park and Wikki Warm Spring. The discovery of limestone in the Gwana Village in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of the corridor and discussions on investment in the cement industry in the area bring an industrial dimension to the corridor.

The corridor offers several investment opportunities to business investors, including opportunities in the tourism and hospitality business around the Yankari, agriculture and livestock businesses around the corridor, and potential supply chain opportunities associated with the development of the Resident Cement.

Investment and Development Activity

Bauchi State Business Directory
Investment and Development Activity.

The most prominent recent success in the investment promotion efforts of the Bauchi State government has been the 2025 Bauchi Economic and Investment Summit in October. The 47 MoUs and investment pipeline of $5.2 billion include investments in agriculture, solid minerals, power, infrastructure, tourism, ICT, and manufacturing, among others. These are numbers on investment commitments and pledges, not on projects completed, and must be monitored project-wise.

The Bauchi Investment Corporation is the state’s investment facilitation arm and operates alongside the investment tracking system geared towards mapping the investments and monitoring the progress of investment projects. This institutional structure is an attempt to professionalize the investment promotion activities and to hold the promised commitments to the investors accountable.

2026 Agricultural and Livestock Development: The L-PRES program is in continued implementation with the support of the World Bank, with 3,000 farmers targeted for enrollment in the milk aggregation program by year-end; and the milk collection centre (MCC) amendment is ongoing, with its construction works in the villages of Azare, Firo and Buzaye. Supporting infrastructure for livestock sector development includes the Veterinary General Hospital, Livestock Market and Artificial Insemination Centre of the College of Agriculture Bauchi.

Institutional Framework for Formalization of the Mining Sector

2024 registration of the mining operators establishment of Bauchi Mining Synergy and Exploration Limited. The largest announced foreign investment is that of the Shandong Minsheng Group’s tin and columbite project in Toro Local Government Area.

Limestone/Cement Development

The planned 10 million metric tons per year Portland cement project in Alkaleri, with a projected investment of $1.5 billion, will redefine the state’s industrial landscape if allowed to come into production. Gwana District’s 10% community equity share reflects a well-defined strategy for community engagement.

Tourism Development

The revitalization of the infrastructure system at Yankari and the ten-year management plan (2025-2035) funded with support from the ACReSAL are showing that tourism development is still receiving institutional attention; however, the revenue does not appear to be fully developed.

Market Infrastructure

The construction of Bauchi Central Market and Azare Modern Market exemplifies the role played by commercial infrastructure constraints in the economic activities of the market as part of the PPP framework.

The main question is whether Bauchi is actually implementing the announced projects or these are good projections. There are specific indicators to track, such as the mining sector reforms, investments in agricultural processing, and reported cement and mineral processing projects. Development finance participation (World Bank – L-PRES, ACReSAL) provides capacity and accountability mechanisms for only state-funded projects.

Who Is Building Here?

Bauchi State Business Directory
Who is Building Here?

Shandong Minsheng Group (Mining/Processing)

The Chinese industrial group, Shandong Minsheng Group, announced a foreign direct investment of $50 million in mining and processing of tin and columbite in the Toro Local Government Area is a substantial investment in mineral beneficiation and not just extraction. The success of this project, if achieved, would be proof of Bauchi’s ability to attract investment to the region in order to support processing activities.

Resident Cement Factory Ltd (Manufacturing/Mining)

The company has announced its discovery of limestone in Alkaleri, and talks on a $1.5 billion cement plant project are the state’s biggest industrial projects. If the project is operational, the scale of the proposed capacity (10 MT per annum) makes Bauchi a great cement production center.

Bauchi Mining Synergy and Exploration Limited (State SPV)

Bauchi Mining Synergy and Exploration Limited (State SPV) is a state-owned entity that is the government’s effort to be more involved than it was before in the commercialisation of the mineral sector as opposed to relying solely on the private sector. Its effectiveness as a business development tool will need to be proven.

L-PRES Implementation Partners (Agriculture/Livestock)

Development Finance Institutions (DFI) involvement in infrastructure for the agricultural value chain in L-PRES involves milk collection center enhancements and farmer enrollment programs under the World Bank-supported Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project.
